The Montessori School of Lake Forest provides excellent Montessori education to children and their families from birth through age fifteen by educating the whole child to become a productive member of school and society with a strong Love of Learning. A developmentally based, emergent curriculum pioneered in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori, Montessori education leads children to direct their own learning interests within the limits of a carefully prepared learning environment. Guided by observant, challenging, supportive, and highly trained teachers, children at MSLF learn by doing and develop a deep knowledge base, strong skills, and an individual love of learning while pursuing a curriculum that meets and often exceeds state and local learning standards. In addition MSLF meets family needs for flexible scheduling by offering a wide range of care options including before and after school hours, full year schedules, and many extracurricular offerings. The MSLF parent community is strong, supported by ongoing communication with teachers and staff, a parent information series, volunteer service and social opportunities. When MSLF students transition into traditional schools, they perform as social and academic leaders. The Montessori School of Lake Forest’s main school building is located on five and one-half acres of park-like wilderness, while its Adolescent Program is located at Prairie Crossing, in Grayslake.
