Mark Allen

NMS Clarinet Faculty

Born and raised in Atlanta, clarinetist Mark Allen Jr. began his clarinet studies in 2011 when he was selected as a participant of the Atlanta Symphony’s Talent Development Program. While in the program, he studied with Bass Clarinetist of the Atlanta Symphony, Alcides Rodriguez. Mark has performed across the nation in numerous venues, such as Sydney Harman Hall, Symphony Center in Chicago, Harris Theater, The Auditorium Theatre, Symphony Hall in Atlanta and the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts.

Mark has also served as Principal Clarinetist of multitude of ensembles, such as The Classical Symphony of Chicago, The Chicago College of Performing Arts Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Contemporary Ensemble and has performed with the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble.

Mark competed in the Misbin Family Memorial Competition where he was described by Pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute as “an excellent clarinetist” and has placed third in the American Prize Competition.  

Mark was a Fellow with the Chicago Sinfonietta during the 2016-2017 season. He has performed and participated in masterclasses with Franklin Cohen, Michele Zukovsky, Mark Dover, Tod Palmer and Charlene Zimmerman.
