The drum and percussion department at NMS combines all aspects of percussion into a comprehensive and engaging programs for both practice and study. We strive to verse all percussion students in western and non-western approaches working both in the classical and popular genres. The program focuses on tying in all areas of percussion, maximizing a student's ability to learn new repertoire and techniques. Students will learn a few core techniques and how to adapt them to new instruments. This interconnectivity of techniques is crucial to the drummer and percussionist who must master an almost infinite number of instruments.
Drum and Percussion students are exposed to artist teachers through master classes with internationally known drummers and percussionists along with the opportunity to attend other instructional master classes. Additionally, drum and percussion students at NMS learn how their instrument relates to all the fine arts by working with renowned professional vocalists, dancers, artists, and actors.
