at New Music School
Redefining piano lessons in Chicago.
The piano department at NMS aims to deliver the finest piano lessons in Chicago and suburbs by presenting repertoire and technique in new and exciting directions. Instruction is offered for both children and adults in classical, jazz, and popular genres. Parents can choose from either Traditional or Suzuki piano methods.
From the first day of lessons an emphasis is placed on core fundamentals. Students continue through the piano curriculum learning significant repertoire, all the while addressing the fundamentals necessary for all levels of performance. New Music School piano students also learn how the piano relates to all the fine arts by working with renowned professional vocalists, dancers, artists, and actors. Finally, our piano students are exposed to artist teachers through master classes with internationally known pianists along with the opportunity to attend other instructional master classes.
Piano lessons are held at our downtown Chicago school, satellite locations, and in our students' homes - both in the city and suburbs, including Lake Forest, Highland Park, Glenview, Deerfield, Oak Park, River Forest, Downers Grove, and Wheaton. Training occurs at all ages in theory, ear training, sight singing, technique, and history.

Mary Sauer from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and selected Piano Faculty team up to offer an intense and accelerated piano program. The Fellow and Junior Fellow program is the perfect place for a student or parent looking for the college preparatory experience. Enrollment is limited to 8 Fellow and 30 Junior Fellows annually.
